Diabetes

Diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease, with almost 1 in 3 people with diabetes suffering from chronic kidney disease.

Arterial hypertension

High blood pressure is the second leading cause of chronic kidney disease. Similar to high blood glucose levels, high blood pressure can also damage kidney vessels. Almost 1 in 5 adults with hypertension has chronic kidney disease.

Family history of kidney failure

If your mother, father, sister, or brother has kidney failure, you have a high risk of chronic kidney disease. If you are diagnosed with kidney disease, be sure to ask family members for an examination.

Older age

Your chances of getting kidney disease increase with age. The longer you suffer from diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, or heart disease, the more likely you are to develop chronic kidney disease.
